How to Choose Your Perfect Detroit Wedding Venue
From the modern elegance of the Shinola Hotel, and the historic background of the Masonic Temple, to the waterfront charm of the Belle Isle Casino, Detroit has so much to offer couples. All of these venues are awesome, and ready to make your wedding a dream come true. Be that as it may, there are things you need to consider before choosing your perfect Detroit wedding venue, as it is one of the most important tasks during your wedding planning.
Below are seven key steps to follow, if you’re looking to learn how to choose your perfect Detroit wedding venue:
Take time to figure out the significance of the wedding venue
For some couples, a wedding venue is just a place to say their vows, drink, dance, and wrap it up. For others, a wedding venue means so much—it could be a place to honor their love, a place that tells the story of their love, or just another symbolic element in their journey towards a lasting union.
Whatever the case may be, knowing what the significance is will guide you on how to choose the best one for you and your lover.
Keep your budget in mind
After learning the significance of a wedding venue for you, and have narrowed the list to include only historic, unconventional, luxury venues. The next step to help you strike out a few venues from the list is your budget.
Budget plays an important role in how to choose your perfect Detroit wedding venue. While some venues are affordable, others are expensive, depending on what each venue has to offer.
Find out the perks of booking each venue
Is the venue all-inclusive? Or do you have to rent your chairs, tables, and linens, and also set up and tear them down? Find these out, and narrow your list even further.
If you want to hire additional vendors for catering, tear down and set up, and interior design services, then, pick a venue that aligns with that vision. But if that’s not your goal, find a venue that already has these things in place.
Finalize or have an estimate of the guest count
Think about your guest list before saying yes to any wedding venue in Detroit. For a wedding of up to one thousand guests, the Michigan Central Station will be a better fit than the Waterview Loft at Port Detroit.
A too-small venue might feel restricted, and make your guests uncomfortable. A venue that’s too big, with guests thrown haphazardly around the room, might defeat the entire purpose of a wedding celebration which is to bring people together, share laughter, mingle, and enjoy good moments.
Consider Amenities
Does your guest list include people from out of town? Does the venue have accommodation for these guests or do they have to find hotel rooms in other places?
A venue like Daxton Hotel allows you to reserve rooms for your guests, and send them a link to make payment. This is easier than driving around at the end of the wedding and searching for a hotel room.
Think of the venue’s accessibility
The location of your venue can impact your guests' experience. Shepherd’s Hollow Golf Club, though beautiful, might be harder to access for certain guests, due to its location. While choosing a wedding venue in Detroit, pick one that is convenient and easily accessible to your guests.
Review the venue’s policies
Some venues give you a full-day access to its amenities after payment is made. But for some others, you only have about four hours for your reception, and thirty minutes for the ceremony.
Some outdoor venues require certain permits. Others have vendors they require you to work with only.
Do well to review the policies of each venue, and see to it that it’s convenient before booking. Don’t forget to visit your selected wedding venue before making payment.

Seasonal Considerations for Detroit Wedding Venues
Detroit experiences four seasons—hot summers, cold winters, mild spring, and pleasant fall. Each of these seasons comes with its unique challenges and joy. Understanding seasonal considerations for Detroit wedding venues is just as important as learning how to choose the right one.
Here, we’ll guide you on how to make the most of the magic each season has to offer:
Summer weddings in Detroit
Summers in Detroit are usually quite warm and humid, making it a peak wedding season. During this time, Detroit outdoor wedding venues such as Belle Isle Conservatory, Belle Isle Casino, The Whitney, Detroit Yacht Club, and Roostertail, are ideal.
Summer Considerations include:
While summer in Detroit is generally warm, heatwaves can happen. So, have a cooling option as your plan B. These options include Chilled towels, shades, fans, parasols, and misting fans.
Summers are peak wedding seasons, so do well to book your preferred Detroit wedding venue months ahead.
To get the most out of the weather, consider scheduling your ceremonies and receptions in the evenings, rather than afternoons.
The theme of your wedding should encourage guests to dress in light and breathable fabrics.
Take advantage of the season by using flowers such as roses and lilies for your décor, as they’re blooming.
Spring weddings in Detroit
Bloom of beauty is mostly what spring season in Detroit is all about. This time, outdoor venues or glass-enclosed indoor venues surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens are usually prioritized when picking a Detroit wedding venue.
Belle Isle Conservatory and Planterra Conservatory are perfect for a Spring wedding.
Spring Considerations include:
Always make plans for when the April rain showers begin, as they’re quite common. A backup indoor venue is advised for those choosing to wed in the outdoors.
Spring is perfect for fresh, seasonal flowers like peonies and lilacs, which can be cut and used as decorations, bouquets, centerpieces, and boutonnieres.
Spring is also a popular season amongst couples, so plan and book your venues early.
Provide blankets or wraps for when the temperatures dip, especially if your wedding is in early spring.
Including foods that are in season such as leafy greens, tomatoes, and carrots, in your menu might be a good way to save cost.
Winter Weddings in Detroit
The snowy lands and backdrops in Detroit during the winter are amazing and can make your wedding photos feel fresh out of a fairytale magazine. To get the full benefits of this season, consider indoor wedding venues, as they’ll provide you and your guests with the needed warmth.
Winter Considerations include:
Venues are priced lower, as this is not a peak season in Detroit.
Accessibility should be considered while choosing a venue, as the snowy grounds can make it a bit difficult for guests to get around.
Venues with on-site accommodation for couples and guests should be at the top of the list.
A wedding theme that encourages the wearing of gloves and furs, would be nice during the winter.
Pick venues with indoor heating options.
Fall Weddings in Detroit
Fall in Detroit is a stunning season, complete with gorgeous foliage, and mild temperatures. It’s considered a romantic season too, due to the colorfulness of the season. This might be the best season to host weddings in artistic, historic, or unconventional venues like Edsel & Eleanor Ford House, The Scarab Club, and The Garden Theatre.
Fall Considerations include:
Temperature is usually mild, but make plans for when it changes.
It’s the season of romance, so venues and vendors might be slightly expensive compared to winter and early spring
If you’re looking to host your wedding in the evening, consider extra lighting as days are significantly shorter during fall season.
Conclusion: Detroit Wedding Venues
Detroit has so much to offer in terms of wedding venues—there are indoor, outdoor, unconventional, and even waterfront locations. All you have to do is pick any one of these Detroit wedding venues that align with your vision and match the aesthetics you hope your big day will have.
But before choosing a wedding venue, make sure to find out if the size matches your guest list, note the amenities available for your use, and calmly review the venue’s policies. These will help you and your wedding planner pick well.
